Ezra Bar-Ziv

Ezra Bar-Ziv

Ezra Bar-Ziv is a Professor of Mechanical Engineering at Michigan Technological University, Houghton, Michigan. His current major research activity is wastes valorization, including material handling, thermal processes (torrefaction, pyrolysis, and gasification), power generation, clean combustion, and solvent-based technology for extraction of pure resins and biogenic materials. He published over 200 articles and holds a few patents in this area. His passion is to develop bench scale technologies into mature full-scale industrial plants. Bar-Ziv designed and built the largest biomass torrefaction facility in the US. His team is currently deploying the first MSW torrefaction industrial system to produce clean solid fuel pellets for power applications. In the last three years most of his efforts have been dedicated to the development of the solvent-based recycling technology, STRAP, for both mixed plastic wastes and MSW. He is leading a large team, comprising universities, national laboratories, waste processors, resin producers, resin converters, and fuel producers.
